The theme for the evening is medical illustrations. I used various vintage medical illustrations treated and fooked with for the main composition. The wood was prestained and spray painted, then I transferred the image over the top. Before sealing, I drew the extra veins and wires connecting the rest of the piece together. Piece is entitled Reanimated.

Despite how much I absolutely hate cold weather, this trip has been the most enjoyable trips that I've taken in years.
Oh, by the way, we survived a 85 mph car flip in 30 below weather with only a light coat and no phone service. Fortunately for all of us, the snow was deep to slow our vehicle from wrapping around a tree and no one was injured what so ever.
I thought one of us wouldn't be seeing the light of day as I closed my eyes and braced myself. Following the flip one of our guys was nearly hit by a passing car. Like inches away. The cops picked us up and took us to a bar. We all spent the entire next morning trying to figure out how to get home. Finally we found a rental place way the hell out of the way. More details when I return.

I still recall the first time I ever saw him skate. I was about 6 years old, and I was amazed. He defined what a skater was to me. The lifestyle, aesthetics, style, etc. I remember buying a used skate video he was featured in, and practically wearing it out.
I don't think there was any pop culture icon in my life that inspired me more than Christian Hosoi. I wanted to be him at such a young age. I wanted to skate like him and live the California rock star life. Probably my first real hero.
I finally watched his documentary last night. If you haven't seen it that you should. Brings back memories of sitting in my room flipping through magazines imagining myself in this magical land of California.
All I can think of is how I should have never thrown out all those boxes and boxes of 80's and 90's skate magazines.
